Exercise: Foraging Sculptures

What are we doing?

We are going to find and document unintentional sculptures while we are walking.

Why are we doing it?

We will practice close looking with our environment as we document chance encounters.

How are we doing it?

Take a walk and keep an eye out for found sculptures, such as interestingly arranged found objects. We are not interacting with any objects, just documenting interesting existing arrangements. It might take time to find something that interests us. We will document with Polycam – a 3D scanning app. We will then share links to all our found sculptures online, creating a sharable gallery of our scanned sculptures.

Reflection Questions

  1. Where did students find their sculptures?
  2. What types of objects were people attracted to?
  3. Was it easy or hard to spot the foraged sculptures? Why?
