What are we doing?
Over the course of 1 hour, you will take a walk you are familiar with, archive it in a way you have not before, and share your archive with the class via discussion board.
Why are we doing it?
This walk is meant to heighten your perception during a walk you are familiar with, and think about a typical/familiar walk in a new way, while experimenting with a form of archiving you haven’t tried before, such as:
- Maps
- Photos
- Map your photos using Google Maps
- Videos
- Text
- Drawings
- Rubbings (see Do Ho Suh “Rubbing / Loving”)
- Leaving a trace
- Collecting objects
- Creating installations
- Recording audio (Check out “Listening to the City“)
How are we doing it?
Think of a walk you know well – perhaps it’s a daily or weekly walk you take. It should probably be 20-30 minutes, so you have time to document and share your archive on our discussion board. If you would normally archive your walk through photos or a GPS map, try one of the other options, or even one that’s not listed here. When you share your archive on the discussion board, please enter a sentence or two of description so we can understand what you’ve posted.
Post a description of your walk here. Feel free to use text, images, video/audio recording, etc.
