To warm up our clay manipulation skills, we will do a simple subtractive clay modeling exercise.
STEP 1: Photograph a fruit from front, side, and top.
STEP 2: Create a bar/box shape of clay approximately the size of the piece of fruit – imagine the piece of fruit *just* perfectly fitting inside the box.
STEP 3: Draw the side view, top view, and end view of the fruit on the side of the clay bar/box.
STEP 4: Use these drawings as a guide for cutting away excess clay and creating a rough view of your fruit.
STEP 5: smooth out the clay piece of fruit until it resembles the actual piece of fruit.
