Transparent Substrates – Out of Class

Look at samples here.

Why are we doing this?
Transparent substrates give us the opportunity to examine depth in a new way. We will focus on this unique opportunity to use layering in our compositions. We will also use this project to practice using various transparent materials.

Objectives/Requirements:
We will use our 9″x12″ panel to create a composition with no less than 3 layers. You can select the transparent substrate(s) with which you’d like to work, as well as the subject matter. You must portray depth in the composition using layering. It must be a strong composition (see elements/principles of design).

Process:
– Brainstorm ideas for your composition
– Plan the use of your transparent substrate(s)
– Create your work

Grading criteria:
5pt – Craft (how well did you layer/cut/draw/pour/etc? Was there evidence of effort, or does it looked rushed and sloppy?)
2pt – Used 9×12 panel and have at least 3 layers
3pt – quality of composition/use of depth
5pt – creativity/originality
