What are we doing?

We are going to read artist essays about their professional development and reflect on how this information might be useful for developing artists and designers.

Why are we doing it? (objectives)

  • To prepare ourselves for careers after graduation
  • To learn about various options other artists have taken
  • To envision our future and think strategically about professional goals

The Artist as Culture Producer

Process

  1. Everyone will select an artist’s name from a hat and will be assigned a due date.
  2. Each student will be responsible for going to the library and checking out the book (on reserve at the front desk), The Artist as Culture Producer. You will read the essay by the artist whose name you selected.
  3. You will provide a brief verbal report to the class about this artist’s essay on your due date (you may use notes). The report will take the form of a list of the 5 most important things in the essay, from your point of view.

Grading

5 points for following the directions.

This assignment is for a verbal list only. No canvas submission necessary. Your grade will be assigned during class.

No points for late/incomplete reports.
