*WEEK 1*

DAY 1 – Tue, Jan 23
IN CLASS:
– Intro Syllabus
– everyone set up your wordpress blog
– everyone add their full name and photo to Canvas

– Talk about Art Events 
– Do Pattern Drawing ice-breaker in sketchbooks
– Intro Zines Project (everyone take notes on elements/principles of 2D – be ready to meet at the library archives with your phone/camera)

– supplies check-in (everyone should also purchase a couple sharpie markers for filling is large areas)

– complete Syllabus Contract online

DAY 2 – Thu, Jan 25 (We’ll meet at the library archives at 10am – NOTE: the archives has a separate entrance from the regular library)
IN CLASS:
– pick up your supplies in the lobby area of the Star Store at start of class???

– working on Zines Project (finding examples of each of the elements and principles being used really well, and posting to class blogs)

DUE NEXT CLASS:
– submit a link to your class blog (there should be 14 posts about the zines)

DAY 3 – Tue, Jan 30

– Intro Sketchbook – Watch “Making Bullshit” (prep for sketchbooks)

Privilege/Difference intro (2-column privilege lists)
– talk about the Examining Futures assignment

DUE NEXT CLASS:
– go to the library to complete the Examining Futures assignment 

ART EVENT: Wed, Jan 31, 6-7pm, Z.Archive Exhibit at Main Campus Library Archives (refreshments)

DAY 4 – Thu, Feb 1 
IN CLASS:
– SB: Chris Ware (Art21, season 8)
– everyone will present their Examining Futures assignment
– intro the Vinyl Stickers/Murals assignment (demo pen tool and cameo cutter)
– start self-reflection listing exercises 

DUE NEXT CLASS:
– submit your DXF file for your sketchbook sticker online
– if you didn’t complete the 10 lists in your sketchbook during class, finish them (have them ready for the start of class)


*WEEK 3*

DAY 5 – Tue, Feb 6 
IN CLASS:
– SB:  assume vivid astro focus (Art21 Season 6)
– we’ll cut out as many stickers as possible
– while people are cutting out stickers, others will measure their assigned window, and start drawing thumbnails for their pattern to go in their window mural 

DUE NEXT CLASS:
– have 10 thumbnail sketches for window mural pattern ideas

DAY 6 – Thu, Feb 8 
IN CLASS:
– Crit the window mural thumbnails
– if there are any remaining small stickers that need to be cut out, we’ll do that
– everyone spends some time creating their mural drawings
– everyone signs up for time slots to cut out their mural drawings (don’t wait to the last minute – give yourself time to fail and fix it in case something goes wrong with your file, the cutting, the weeding, or the transfer paper)

DAY 8 – Thu, Feb 15

– last day to work on mural drawings
– DXF file must be complete and submitted on Canvas by end of class (12:15)

DAY 10 – Thu, Feb 22 [MEETING AT 10am at CCB 115 for a presentation by the Career Development Center]

– Attendance will be taken at the event

– Please install your mural before class (it will be very challenging to try to install everyone’s murals with just 2 ladders during class on Tuesday). 

ART EVENT: Wed, Feb 21, 6:30pm, Star Store room 432 – Mark Cooper visiting lecture

ART EVENT: February 24th – 12PM Dog Derive starting at the New Bedford Art Museum: Grab your dog, coats, best dog outfits, and a travel mug! NBAM/AW! will be providing dog treats, coffee, and hot cocoa for your puppy-guided adventure around New Bedford. Non-dog owner’s are totally welcome! We’ll be traveling in “packs” with two professional dog walkers as well as Roz Crews from The Center for Undisciplined Research to explore New Bedford as a community of dog lovers!

–Intro Neighborhood Project (go start the research/12 thumbnails/2 written paragraphs about your chosen locations)

– finish any research/12 thumbnails for the Neighborhood Project that you didn’t complete during class, and submit your 2-paragraphs on Canvas

DAY 12 – Thu, Mar 1 
IN CLASS:
– SB: Margaret Kilgallen and Barry Mcgee (Art21 Season 1)
– critique of everyone’s thumbnails and listen to verbal presentations of their selected places

– start doing marker-versions of your 6 neighborhood compositions
– work on xacto cutting exercise
– reminder about reflection assignment on Canvas (includes documentation of the stickers/murals)

– everyone will watch their film, and take notes on the general colors used and the order they are used in  (you can do this from any location you like – you are not obligated to come to the classroom)
