01. Zines Analysis

Why are we doing this? (Objectives)

  • Introduces elements/principles of 2D design
  • Practice analyzing composition and visual relationships by using vocabulary

zines

Process

We are going to spend some time with the zine collection at the Library’s Archives, analyzing the elements and principles of design in the zines.

  1. Everyone will find and photograph examples of the elements and principles used in the zines. For example, first everyone will look for a page or spread that has good use of LINE. Then, we’ll compare everyone’s finds.
  2. Students will post a photo of their finding to their personal blog, titling each post after the specific element/principle. Each blog post will contain the author/title of the zine, and will explain in a complete sentence why it is a good example of the noted element/principle. We will repeat this for each of the elements/principles. (14 total)

Late/incomplete work receives a zero. Be sure to follow the directions/used class time wisely. I’ll be checking students’ ability to use, analyze, and critique elements/principles of design throughout
