Participants write the names of two different women on each prayer staff and leave them along the route of the Dakota Commemorative Walk. The Walk pays homage to the forced march in 1862 of over 1,700 Dakota elderly men, women, and children over 150 miles from Morton, MN to Fort Snelling. (Pioneer Press: Chris Cooper)
