Dakota Commemorative Walk (2012)

Carrying prayer staffs, dozens of participants of the Dakota Commemorative Walk cross the Mendota Bridge Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012. The sixth-annual walk honors the 1,700 Dakota men, women and children who were forced to march nearly 125 miles to Fort Snelling following the Dakota War in 1862. The staffs, which contain two names of those who spent time at the Fort Snelling camp, were placed at mile markers along the route and at the camp site.
